On 15 September 2026, Kavaja Municipality held the first meeting of its Local Council for Public Safety (LCPS). Participants included representatives of local institutions, the Office of the Prefect of Tirana Region, the State Police, the Municipal Police, regional institutions represented on the Council and the Swedish Community Policing Support Programme (SCPA).
The meeting focused on concerns raised by the community, including safety around schools, public order, road safety, noise and pollution. Participants also discussed infrastructure issues and coastal erosion. They stressed the need for regular, formalised cooperation among institutions so that the Council can follow up on the issues identified.
As a next step, participants proposed that Kavaja Municipality, the Municipal Police and the State Police develop a joint plan to monitor schools across the municipality, the beach area and locations where problems recur. Such a plan would also help coordinate road safety and public order measures, particularly during periods of high visitor numbers.
The meeting marked the start of more structured cooperation on local safety priorities. Following up on residents’ concerns through concrete action will remain central to the Council’s work.
