Grant Scheme Activity – Youth and Road Safety – Tirana

The Road Safety Board, as part of its road safety awareness activities, held four information sessions at the “Myslym Keta” high school on 11th, 12th  and 13th May 2026. The activities focused on raising awareness among young people about road hazards, behavioral norms and the importance of respecting road traffic rules. One of the main topics of discussion was increasing civic awareness and rejecting illegality on the road. It is a fact that some high school students use vehicles without a driver’s license, which constitutes a serious concern for road safety and a shared responsibility for the community, family and institutions.

During the conversations with the high school students, it was emphasized that the failure to react to violations of the law and the failure to raise concerns by the student community or parents themselves creates tolerance for dangerous behavior on the road. There was extensive discussion on the importance of strengthening community policing and the need for every citizen to be held accountable for the illegality they encounter on the road.

The activities developed by the RSB continued from the classroom to the school yard, where a practical simulation of the use of a seat belt was carried out. The activity then continued in the field, where the students themselves, in the role of road safety volunteers, had the opportunity to identify various violations and raise awareness among citizens through “symbolic fines” prepared by road safety volunteers.

This practical interaction created an active involvement of young people in road safety issues and conveyed the message that respecting the rules is not only the responsibility of institutions, but also of the community itself.
